چکیده

This paper looks into the dual route model of fear conditioning using gammatone filterbank for auditory pre-processing, in order to extract contiguous frequency bands from auditory stimuli, as seen in auditory nerves. The model focuses on two routes i.e., the cortical pathway using the auditory cortex as a messenger between auditory thalamus and the amygdala & the sub-cortical pathway where, the amygdala has direct input from the thalamus. Several lesion experiments were simulated on the model to explain the differences between the two routes. But in the same time it has been identified that a requirement of a more biophysical model exists to capture more of the functional differences that exists between these two routes.

Fear Conditioning in an Automated Home Cage (DualCage) Environment

Fear conditioning is an important test in behavioral neuroscience to investigate the neural systems and molecular basis of various aspects of emotional learning across a wide range of species [1]. Dysfunction of the fear circuits is assumed to underlie mechanisms of affective disorders and is frequently investigated in rodent models. Traditional fear conditioning methods require frequent handli...

Pavlovian fear memory circuits and phenotype models of PTSD.

Pavlovian fear conditioning, also known as classical fear conditioning is an important model in the study of the neurobiology of normal and pathological fear. Progress in the neurobiology of Pavlovian fear also enhances our understanding of disorders such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and with developing effective treatment strategies. Here we describe how Pavlovian fear conditioning ...

Reversible Plasticity of Fear Memory-Encoding Amygdala Synaptic Circuits Even after Fear Memory Consolidation

It is generally believed that after memory consolidation, memory-encoding synaptic circuits are persistently modified and become less plastic. This, however, may hinder the remaining capacity of information storage in a given neural circuit. Here we consider the hypothesis that memory-encoding synaptic circuits still retain reversible plasticity even after memory consolidation. To test this, we...

Neurobiology of Pavlovian fear conditioning.

Learning the relationships between aversive events and the environmental stimuli that predict such events is essential to the survival of organisms throughout the animal kingdom. Pavlovian fear conditioning is an exemplar of this form of learning that is exhibited by both rats and humans. Recent years have seen an incredible surge in interest in the neurobiology of fear conditioning. Neural cir...

Controlling the elements: an optogenetic approach to understanding the neural circuits of fear.

Neural circuits underlie our ability to interact in the world and to learn adaptively from experience. Understanding neural circuits and how circuit structure gives rise to neural firing patterns or computations is fundamental to our understanding of human experience and behavior. Fear conditioning is a powerful model system in which to study neural circuits and information processing and relat...
